The University acknowledges the importance of staff development and established the in 2004 for teacher training and talent development, aiming at helping teachers and postgraduate students master cutting-edge educational theories and teaching methods, and enhance their teaching skills, research abilities, and professionalism, steadily improving the education quality of the University. The Human Resources Office of the University also arranges training workshops and seminars to staff to enhance their skills and knowledge on their job to support institutional operations and provide quality education and research outputs.
Various incentive and support schemes are also in place for the development and growth of our faculty members and staff. These include academic leave and/or financial support for qualified academic staff to attend summer training courses and programs organized by overseas institutions. Academic staff are also entitled to apply leave for academic conferences or other academic activities.
Another valuable support scheme is the Sabbatical Leave scheme. Eligible staff can take an extended break from their regular duties to focus on professional development. During this sabbatical period, staff can engage in activities like further education, joint research, academic exchanges, etc. to upgrade their pedagogical skills and enhance their academic capabilities.
Additionally, the University understands the value of higher education and offers a Tuition Subsidy scheme for staff pursuing higher degrees in the University. Through this scheme, staff are eligible to receive financial assistance towards the cost of tuition. This subsidy plays a crucial role in promoting continuous learning and growth among staff, fostering a culture of lifelong learning within the University.
To encourage quality research outputs, funding and incentive schemes are established and made available to faculty members. In terms of funding support, the University has set up the Faculty Research Grant (FRG) which is an internal research fund aiming to encourage and facilitating research activities by providing financial assistance for research projects. Staff can apply for a grant to support their research projects, which can include funding for equipment, materials, conference, or research-related expenses.
There are also various academic reward schemes, like the Teaching Excellence Award, Teaching Achievement Award, the BOC Research Excellence Award, LIB Academic Research Award, Incentive Measures for Publishing Papers in SCI/SSCI Journals, Best Research Output Award, etc. to recognize the significant contribution to teaching and research by our staff and faculty members. More information can be found from Research and Technology Administration Office.
To support the career development of high caliber staff members and to inspire them to provide high quality services, the University has comprehensive staff development and promotion policies in place, like annual assessment and promotion of the academic/administrative ranks, Long Service Award to encourage staff to commit and grow with the University.
The above are just some of the schemes to demonstrate the University’s commitment to staff development which is continuously having its utmost importance in the development plan of the University.
